Blizzard, however, was taken off guard. One of those developers responded, shockingly,”Would you guys not have phones?” The BlizzCon attendees have phones–they don’t need to play Diablo in their phones when they have absolutely wonderful gaming PCs chomping at the bit, ready to go for a spin.
So that is the joke, and it is pretty buy Diablo Immortal Gold if you ask me. It doesn’t answer the question posed by a Twitter user sans telephone (I suppose if you can not download the app you can’t get a free hamburger, and I guess that’s a shame because anybody who can’t afford a telephone and a free program could probably use one) but it’s brought joy to this writer. Oh well. I will choose the schadenfreude.
This year blizzard announced a new mobile game. Diablo Immortal was the large reveal during the publication’s keystone occasion and gamers weren’t happy. The show wasn’t satisfied with applause or excitement. Rather, a collective sigh filled the room, followed closely by stunned disbelief and then roiling anger.
Gamers were so miserable that one even asked the studio when this was a delayed April Fool’s joke, a question many deemed inappropriate but that I find not only fitting but very funny. All things considered, Blizzard is joking or completely out of touch to announce this match in this fashion in front of the crowd.
It’s not that a Diablo game isn’t a good idea in and of itself. It’s the combination of several elements conspiring to upset Blizzard’s most ardent fan base. Let’s look at the biggest missteps, overreactions and other various problems with this entire fiasco.Honestly, what the hell has been Blizzard thinking announcing a mobile game as the capstone show of the BlizzCon keynote event in front of its most fervent fans–most of whom are PC and console gamers first and foremost?
